SPAIN’S NATIONAL DRINK IS BELOVED IN THE STATES

The origins of Spanish sangria are lost to history. No one is exactly sure how this drink, named for its rich, blood-red appearance, came to be. In Spain, sangria is most often associated with the summer, beaches and outdoor meals like picnics and cookouts. People will whip up a batch of sangria for a hang out by the pool, or a lunch. There are a million different recipes. There are strong sangrias with brandy or gin or vodka added, for nighttime consumption and light sangrias for daytime drinking, flavored with nothing more than some fruit and soda water, or lemon-lime soda.

YOU CAN ENJOY FANGRIA ANY TIME, ANY WAY. It’s delicious on its own, over ice, with a splash of soda water, or as the base for a more complex sangria with added fruit, liquor and mixers. As the Spanish will tell you, there are no rules when it comes to sangria.
